The First Cut

Do it Yourself floor sanding & polishing Brisbane.

First of all Hi, and yes you are insane. But so am I, so hey! The most misquoted and misunderstood bit of advice you will get when sanding a floor D.I.Y.

Sanding With the Grain.

All DIY people strongly agree, You have to Sand with the grain?  ANS. Half Wrong. You have to Finish Sanding with the Grain, is correct. I'll say it once more to get it through to you. YOU FINISH SANDING WITH THE GRAIN. However........You don't start sanding with the grain.

The First Angle Cut.

So now you know. The very first pass you make with the sander, should be at 45 degrees to the Timber. Yes an angle cut. If the floor is very bad, or if you aren't putting enough presuure on the lever (If your hire machine even has one, which most don't....see you're crazy) then you may need to do a second angle cut 45 degrees back the other way, so now you look like you have made an "X" across your boards. Well actually //////// first and then \\\\\\\\\\\ Then finally finish that paper with going with the grain. (iiiii)

You'll be well and truely sick of it by now, but if you can hang in there, the meduium and fine papers should be able to be done just with the Grain, if you got the first bit right.

So in summary, if you started with just going straight up and down the boards......MASSIVE FAIL!

Always start with the angle Cut First.....and then Always FINISH with the Grain. There you have it folks. The Best DIY tip you will ever get. If you want the truely best tip ever, watch The Perfect Process video detailing Timber floor sanding & polishing in Brisbane , or give us a call, and get Quicksand & Polish to do your floors.
